Cafe Hopping: Wheeler’s Yard

Wheeler’s Yard is the new kid on the block with regards to Singapore’s new hipster cafe scene. I’m not too sure when this cafe opened but when I first stepped afoot there last month, I was blown away by its size, location and comfort. It’s actually a huge warehouse and the cafe functions as a bicycle shop as well. There’s plenty of space, so you don’t have to worry about not getting a seat or having to be on a waiting list. Parking lots, however, is limited so you might have to park your cars at the HDB parking nearby.

The first time I was at Wheeler’s Yard, I had the espresso shot. They didn’t have Americano (beats me why they didn’t have it on the menu), so I couldn’t judge the quality of the coffee fairly. When I cafe hop, I use the Americano as quality control. I do have to admit, the espresso was strong enough to keep me up a bit later than my usual bed time.

The menu, however, was very limited. You would think that a cafe with such an enormous space would have fancy and unique things on the menu, but not so for Wheeler’s Yard. The coffee menu was limited to espresso shots, latte and cappuccino. They do have umm a $4 milk on the menu, as well as hot chocolate and sodas and teas – oh not forgetting beers. The only food I had was the nachos, and I must say they do a darn good nacho.

As for the latte, I cannot say much because I have never been a fan of lattes, although latte art is beautiful. I didn’t want the espresso this time round so my friends and I went for the latte.

Did I mention the place is exceptionally beautiful for a pre-wedding or wedding photo shoot? The space, high ceilings and warehouse vibes certainly did inspire me.

Overall, I think Wheeler’s Yard is a great place for hanging out with friends, and just let the day pass by. I wouldn’t go back for coffee unless my friends do want to pay the place a visit.

Cafe Hopping: Max Brenners

I finally have my weekends back, although it’s only this week that I can happily go out and recharge myself after a whole month of working every day. I still need to edit the photos of 2 weddings and a graduation shoot, though. But I did manage to steal some time off earlier today to catch up with a fellow Temasekian junior. The last time we met was 6 years ago, and I still remember him as the small cute little 13 year-old. He’s now taller than me. Sigh.

It all started when he instgrammed asking his followers if anyone would like to accompany him to Max Brenner. Me, being shameless and with no plans for the weekend (okay I lied I had my friends over last night), messaged him on Facebook and voila, Max Brenner here we come!

I knew what I wanted right from the start. I order the churros fondue after much hype over it all over social media. The churros were delicious and not too sweet, but I don’t recommend eating this as your lunch. We were there at 1pm, and it was quite empty, only to realise the crowd came in at 2pm, AFTER lunch. It kinda makes sense, just that we were two greedy idiots who wanted all the chocolate in the world for lunch.

He had the crepes (we debated on the actual pronunciation, and decided to pronounce it as craps, as in shit crap) which were divine. Caramel sauce was not too overpowering and the bananas and strawberries let you pretend you’re eating healthy.

Churros. Simply perfect.

ImageHe had the kangaroo cup thingy which is actually a macchiato.

Lesson learnt for my friend – put sugar in the macchiato.

Overall, the service was so-so (I had to keep asking for refills of iced water), but the ambience is cosy. Although try to come before the crowd comes in, which means eat chocolate for lunch.

A Date with Patrick J. Adams

I don’t post much here but if you are a friend on Facebook, or following me on Twitter, you would probably know I’m a huge Suits fan. New York, law, witty jokes, dashing actors and actresses, and particularly my kind of lead actor – what there not to love?

Yesterday, I got invited to a private party at the Royal Room Pan Pacific for a chance get up close and (umm, too) personal with Patrick J. Adams, aka Mike Ross. He’s exactly my type of guy – tall, skinny, sharp features and awkward. Yes, awkward. I love awkward guys. Heh.

Enjoy the pictures! Just don’t kill me yet.

First red carpet event for me! Haha of course I’m just a fan girl hogging the red carpet. Not in a position to be there without a free pass lol.

ImageLook at how gorgeous Patrick J Adams is!

ImageStill melting…

ImageAs much as I want Patrick to myself, I must admit Troian and Patrick look really good together.

ImageShe was wearing heels but I bet we’re the same height.

ImageHEHEHEHEHEHHE look at my gushing face!

ImageAsked them to smile for the camera and they gave me this! Hehe

And so with that, my birthday wish came true. Also, I’m thinking that if teaching doesn’t work out, I wouldn’t mind doing Public Relations. So many new friends made yesterday!
